Pouring Vessels
In this 3-day hands on workshop, the focus will be on all kinds of pouring vessels.
Working on the wheel and tabletop, this class will explore a multitude of techniques for making pots that pour. This includes forms thrown on the wheel, hand-built, out of the round, and then assembling with components to enhance form, and experience utility of a good pour.
An important consideration of pouring vessels is how the components interact and function. Use of slips for surface decoration will spark ideas about marrying form and surface and will include both Suze’s and McKenzie's approaches to surfaces for salt and soda kilns. Sketchbook exercises, images of historical and contemporary pots will kindle purpose and intent.
