Beyond the Break: Innovative Methods for Assembling and Repairing in Contemporary Ceramics
As contemporary ceramic sculpture continues to increase in scale and complexity, artists are challenged to develop innovative methods for assembling, repairing, and transporting multi-part works.
This 3-day workshop, led by ceramic artists Rob Kolhouse and Taylor Robenalt, explores practical techniques for engineering ceramic sculpture beyond the kiln by combining traditional ceramic construction with contemporary mixed-media solutions.
By integrating traditional ceramic craftsmanship with contemporary engineering solutions, participants will leave with practical techniques for constructing, repairing, and exhibiting ambitious ceramic work with confidence.

Rob Kolhouse will introduce advanced post-firing assembly methods using rare-earth magnets, concealed hardware, threaded rods, and precision-engineered mechanical connections that allow ceramic sculptures to be assembled and disassembled with minimal visual interruption.
